The history currently only goes back to John Collett, born about 1840 probably in Middlesex or West London, England. The family eventually moved from Fulham to Morden in Surrey in the 1930s when the St Helier Estate was built to re-house inner city residents. Ayt the time it was one of the largest such developments built by the London County Council. After the war (1939-1945) the family started to disperse to County Kerry in Ireland, Stourbridge in the West Midlands, and eventually via Epsom in Surrey to Andover in Hampshire. There is thought to be some connection to North Bay, Ontario, Canada through my grandmother, Dorothy May Collett who visited relatives there in 1967. Through this project contact has been established with the Irish Colletts, and work goes on to try to fill numerous gaps, particularly the history of John Collett, John Morgan Collett and William Collett |
